Readers Love Diego's Dragon!

Dear Mr. Gerard,

My name is Patrick Wraith and I am a 5th grade teacher at Felicita Elementary School.  My students and I have just begun to read the first book in your Diego's Dragon series.  They are enthralled because the main character is essentially themMy students are also Hispanic ten and eleven year olds from Escondido and this makes for a very compelling and visceral reading experience for them.

When I pointed out that you are a local author they became extremely excited about the idea of picking your brain regarding aspects of the story.  To that end, I was hoping to bounce some ideas off of you regarding opportunities to enrich the lessons I have designed around your book and perhaps even schedule a class visit.  I'm sure you are a busy man but if you could find the time to respond my students and I would greatly appreciate it.  I hope to hear from you soon.

Sincerely,
Patrick Wraith

Hello Kevin,

My wife and I met you at the Carlsbad Street Fair. I bought Conor & the Crossworlds; you then gave me Diego's Dragon and signed the books to my students. Awesome-the kids love your books. I introduced the books only to my 7th graders (I teach 6, 7, 8 English). My 8th graders will be gone in 3 weeks, I'll have my 6th graders next year again, & my 7th graders will be "kings" of the school next year so I'm setting them up to feel special.

I read the first 3-4 chapters of each book to my seveners. They loved both books. I then loaned the two books to two sisters in my class to finish reading and report. Because I gave your website out, a couple students Kindled your book, Diego ..., and have finished it. Our librarian is looking into ordering your series for next year. I also got inspired by the kids' reaction.

I spoke to our principal about having an annual major Middle School writing contest next year, and he got excited. I will, like you, buy an awesome statue to entice the kids at Back to School and give them until Christmas break to turn in their stories-details are to be worked out. At that time, I'll probably contact you to present the award since the whole idea came from you. Also, I'll be contacting you next August/September to come speak with the kids at Cottonwood.

Anyway, I thought I'd share these unfolding ideas with you. Bless you for your generosity and interest in kids.

Oh, one more thing, my wife has "made" me read your books to her as she falls asleep. Too funny.

I am so happy that Book Three came out! I loved Book One and Book Two and now I can't wait to read Book Three that I just bought.

What a great series for young people and adults too! (yes, I am an adult but don't tell anyone since I am 66 years young!

Hi there --

I just wanted to Thank you for offering that copy to us. I wrapped it last night and put it under the tree for my son and it gave me a really great feeling. He is such a fan and so intrigued by all of your books. He has never torn through reading without me reminding him to like he has with your books. He will be so grateful and appreciative to have that book and has totally been talking about how bad he wants it for Christmas and what a bummer it is that its not out yet. I cannot believe that he literally only asked for like three things for Christmas and that is one of them.

Anyways....I wanted you to know that we appreciate it and it will be going to a good place where its very much cherished.

Thanks for making a Holiday wish come true.

Happy Holidays and may 2014 bring you lots of good things.

Check out the shrine one of my fans made for her Diego's Dragon adventure books - how cool is that?

Kevin,

I had to let you know that my daughter LOVED your book. She said it's one of her favorite dragon books "ever" (and she's read too many to count). I asked her to tell me what she thought and she said, "One word, mom . . . A-MAZE-ING!!"

I look forward to reading it myself and posting my review. Molly wants to know if there is a book 2?  :)

Wow...he was awesome!  When is he coming back?  Can he come next week?  Those were some of the comments I heard from many of the kids later that afternoon.   They so enjoyed your visit.  The kids that won prizes, books and posters couldn't stop smiling all day!  Thank you again for everything!   It truly was a wonderful day and a great experience for everyone!   I hope you had a great weekend and have a safe trip home.

Kindest regards,  Lori

I got a copy of your first book for my 4th grade class. I need another copy of the first book because the kids have worn it down.

Let me know how I can get an extra copy.

Thanks! Randy

Kevin,

This book is for my son. He bought the first book from you at the farmers market a few weeks ago and has been really enjoying it.

If you could address it to Daniel I would appreciate it.

Thanks for writing a book that kids really like to read!

Kevin,

I have just purchased your 7 published books (Diego's Dragon & Conor/Crossworlds) and written a review on Amazon, which should be posted shortly. Did I see or read somewhere that a third Diego's Dragon book was in progress?  I certainly hope I didn't dream that up. I'll be in touch later when the books arrive, but there's no rush as they are for Christmas.  (How nice for you that Amazon was almost out of several of your books -- but more on the way soon.) Thanks again for your help in allowing Grandma to give a fantastic present!

   --Lyn-- a definite fan

Dear Mr. Gerard,

My name is Eric and I like your book, "Diego's Dragon" a lot. My teacher brought the book to class yesterday.  He says he bought it at the La Jolla Farmer's Market on Sunday.   I think you are a good author because your book is really good.

Sincerely,

Eric

The day after you asked if the kids liked the book, I got a voluntary book report from a student on Diego’s Dragon.  He said (in the report) that it was interesting and he liked it, it would make a good movie and he would tell his friends that “it is like the coolest book ever."  This was without prompting . . . I swear!

Hi there,
My son bought 2 books, Spirits of the Sun and Dragons of the Dark Rift, and is loving them! We were wondering when you will be at the market off Melrose again and if they are always on special if you buy them in person?

Thanks!
Adina

I highly recommend the Diego’s Dragon series to anyone who loves sci-fi /fantasy, or dragons, or stories with unexpected heroes – or stories with enough action & plot twists to intrigue even a hardcore fan of murder mysteries.

On page one of Spirits of the Sun, we meet young Diego & his dragon, a handsome & oddly compelling statue which is actually a living, fire-breathing dragon.  But even after Diego wraps his mind around that, there’s another surprise in store: Magnifico has plans for his new friend, involving adventures beyond Diego’s wildest dreams!  And Diego has a very vivid imagination …

Author Kevin Gerard uses deft character development, suspense, humor & action to draw readers into a fantasy world that seems more real with every page, and leaves you hard pressed to set Book One aside until you’ve read it all. And if you enjoyed Book One as much as I did, Dragons of the Dark Rift [Book Two] will hold you captive and leave you aching to read Book Three – which hasn’t been published yet.

All I can add is ‘write on, Kevin -- write on!’

Your Vista Farmer's Market Fan - Jamie

Kevin,

You are an amazing writer. You have inspired me to make a book of my own. It is about a kid who can jump through space and time just by jumping. The next few paragraphs are what I have so far from the book. Please read them and give me feedback.

I'm almost done reading the first book of the Diego's Dragon series. This YA book is one of my favorites! The best characters so far are Diego, Magnifico and Racquel. I couldn't stop reading and I can't wait until the next one comes out! Other books are nothing compared to Diego's Dragon. Thanks for signing my book, you're great! :-)

Here is the photo of you and my son Estebian taken at the Welk's

enjoyed your reading of the book on youtube. Thanks for what you do in

I finally finished Diego's Dragon! It was so good that I even recommended it to a few book clubs at my school! Your new series of books really are an inspiration, I've been writing books ever since I was five years old. I keep them in a small box, i've written over 50 long and small stories (sadly not published yet) When I grow up, I hope to write a series of books that could win awards! I hope you can count me as you 1# fan :) Good job writing books and continue writing the 'Diego's Dragon' series!
